Ok here it goes. My first blog post ever. This is monumental. But really.
So Summer.
Does anyone know how it is June 11th already? Time seems to be flying, speeding, fleeting already... yet so much has happened.
Here is a little glimpse into my summer of 2011 so far:
To begin my summer in hash-tags. it seems appropriate because hash-tags are always appropriate:
#sweettea #porchworshipsessions #cicadasewwwww #canont1i #waitimstillajournalismmajor? #pickuptruck #coffeecoffeecoffee #redmangoontheregular #95degreeweatherisntnormalformultipleconsecutivedays #88degreesisacoldfront? #community
#expectationsturnedupsidedown #rocheportismyfavorite #ijustwanttoridebikeswithyou
Surprisingly,
there has been so much inconsistency and pretty much no structure in my summer, which is totally great and what summer is supposed to be :) but totally and completely unlike me. This 'freespirit.com' action began right after my belongings were taken out of The Hatch Patch and dispersed to various locations ending with my parents dropping me off at my fist residence for the summer: The Loo.
For those of you that don't know the Loo is a house on east campus where AB used to live.
I didn't get to go home, which i was a little bummed about, but summer school was calling which wasn't so bad cause pretty excited to take this much anticipated photography class. Surprisingly though with my friends deserting CoMo for a bit to go home, I was unexpectedly a little lonely. However, all turned for the better because i took advantage of the alone time, having some awesome time with Jesus really clinging to Him. Plus i had the opportunity to spend time talking to people i normally wouldn't have, and pursuing unexpected adventures.
But 2ish weeks later I was reunited with my long lost friends and housemates for the summer and settled into my permanent residence for the summer!! aka 1317 Anthony St.
For those of you who don't know the Drage residence has been taken over with estrogen. I get to spend the summer living with 5 amazing girls. Despite getting locked out the first night there have been no major disasters so far. (fingers crossed!). We're all very responsible, so I'm not too worried.
Side Note: since naming houses is the cool thing to do, we obviously felt compelled to do the same. After much debate and consultation the final name chosen for the Drage residence this summer is The Coop... because chicks live here . It hasn't really stuck yet, but I have faith.
Anyway, last week my highschool friends made the trip from good ol' Wisco to come visit me :)
It was quite lovely to see them and I took them to all the CoMo favorites: Big Tree, Capen, Stephans Lake Park, Devil's Ice Box... we definitely kept busy. It was really cool to see how even though we've changed so much, we can still go back to that core of our friendship and just be friends. The heat and humidity definitely took a toll on their unconditionedness to the MO atmosphere though.
Plus i forgot to mention the cicadas..which they did not appreciate..although Im pretty sure telling them in advance wouldn't have changed much.
Ok one last thing: One thing i've really been mediating on and bringing really conversing with God about is this idea of an eternal mindset. At the Rock this week we talked about what the Gospel looks like at the end of life. We were reminded of how short our time really is and how vital it is that we have an eternal mindset. What does it REALLY look like to live like a Christ follower intentionally everyday? This concept seems very elementary, but looking at this summer, we often brush off summer as a time when things don't matter and we can do whatever we want. But there really is no time like the present, you know? Our days truly are numbered, which sounds cliche and a bit harsh, but what better opportunity than this summer do we have to really explore and experiment with this idea of living for Christ everyday even when summer days everyday often are so unpredictable? Just some thoughts, encouragement and maybe even a challenge.
I love hearing about your lives!
Keepin' it real in CoMo,
Margaret
